Intellectual Health
What is intellectual Health? The most simple and basic way I found It put “The sharpness and wellness of your mind; including creative and mental abilities, one’s knowledge, and skills.” Or in another scenario I saw “Intellectual wellness is having a curiosity and strong desire to learn”. Mental health and intellectual health are very closely tied but the key difference between them is that intellectual health refers to the knowledge area of the brain. There are quite a few aspects to your intellectual health but I will summarize with these 3 points:
· Knowledge
o How much you know
· Mind Skills
o Memory, communication skills, reaction timing, etc
· Creativity
o Being able to think outside the box
You must keep your intellectual health up by:
· Trying new things
· Read for fun
· Learn to appreciate art
· Explore different ways to use spare time
· Learn ways to organize your work and personal life for efficient and to improve quality of life
· …basically keep your brain active
If do not keep your brain sharp, bad results could follow like:
· Short term memory
· Poor reaction time
The Bible does not speak very much about intellectual health, but there are still some verses:
"Come, let us reason together says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isa 1:18).
This passage shows that God approves of reason.
"My thoughts are not your thoughts... As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are... my thoughts higher than your thoughts" (Isa 55:8-9).
God has thoughts too, although ours are not on the same level though.
To summarize intellectual health refers to our smarts, creativity, and open-mindness. We must keep it smart by keeping our brain active, or else bad results will follow.
